UBC Feminist Legal Studies

The Faculty of Law is nationally and internationally renowned for its scholarship and teaching in Feminist Legal Studies. Feminist analysis of law is a major focus of research and publishing in the Faculty, including in the fields of Criminal Law, Evidence, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Family Law, Human Rights, Social Welfare Law, Mental Health and Disability Law, and Taxation. Work is also being done in Feminist Legal Theory and on the intersections between race, gender, sexuality, class, disability, and culture. Faculty members and students have been involved in feminist groups such as the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) and the National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL). Both faculty members and students have worked on the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law. Feminist legal scholars from other countries and from elsewhere in Canada frequently visit the Faculty of Law and the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies.
