CoRe Events - 2012 CoRe Speaker Series

 

 

 

In 2012, the CoRe Speaker Series will once again include a total of eight presentations on a wide range of topics of interest to all dispute resolution practitioners and students. Our first three sessions are scheduled, so please save the dates! And remember to renew your annual CoRe membership now to ensure that you receive notice of all events. Our memberships run for the calendar year, so all members are due to renew.

    Join SHARON SUTHERLAND as she updates and expands upon her very popular ADRIC conference presentation on mediation on television

    Preventing Pitfalls and Building an Effective Practice
    Interested in practical information about the growing field of elder mediation? Join Joan Braun for a session focused on how to deal with the unique challenges inherent in elder mediation, how to avoid potential pitfalls, and tips for effective elder mediation practice.

    Creative DR options under the new Supreme Court Civil Rules
    One of the stated goals of the Rules Committee which led to the promulgation of the revised Rules of Court effective July 1, 2010, was to provide "a streamlined, accessible Supreme Court system where matters that can be settled are settled quickly and affordably and matters that need a trial get to trial quickly and affordably

 

  • Wednesday, June 6, 2012 - Time: 4:30pm until 6:00pm
    Deal Mediators: expanding the use of mediation to transactional deal-making
    The idea of transactional mediation, or using mediators in deal making rather than just in the settlement of legal disputes, has been theoretically discussed for some time. This session will explore whether there is a role for mediation in deal making, the skills which may be transferable from conflict resolution to deal making, and what value mediators might bring in that setting.

    Presented by Carrie Gallant.

Attendance Options

The CoRe Speaker Series presentations will take place in person at KPMG, located on the 9th floor, 777 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver, B.C. Videoconferencing to Allard Hall, room 335, will also be provided. There are limited seats at KPMG. RSVP early to coreclinic1@gmail.com and confirm your seat.

Attendance at the speaker series is free for CoRe members and volunteers, $20 for others. Pay ahead online or bring a cheque or exact change to pay at the door. CoRe annual memberships for 2011 are available for $50.

The CoRe Clinic is an approved continuing development provider for the Law Society of BC. Its Speaker Series events are pre-approved educational activities for professional development credit. Mark your calendars for these dates too and check back here and on our facebook page for more details.
