CoRe

Student Volunteers

The CoRe Clinic is operated by a dedicated group of law student volunteers under the guidance of the Clinic Supervisor.Core Team

Clinicians

Student clinicians manage the office, provide advice on mediation, and schedule mediations. Please call the CoRe office at 604-827-5024 to speak with a clinician about our services.

Student Mediators

Students who have completed Law 479 - Mediation Clinic and Law 480 - Mediation Practicum are eligible to co-mediate disputes referred to CoRe Clinic along with a professional mentor-mediator. These student mediators have all received a minimum of 60 hours of mediation training and have completed at least 4 mentored mediations in Small Claims Court. Most student mediators are law students, but graduate students from other disciplines may also participate in the training and volunteer as clinicians on completion.

Past Student Representatives

Michelle RandallMichelle Randall

After being introduced to conflict resolution theory and practice in a course while attending Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Michelle went on to work as a student assistant to her conflict resolution professor. After graduating with a BA in criminology, Michelle received training from the RCMP to work as a community justice forum facilitator.

She went on to volunteer with the restorative justice program at a non-profit community based social service agency in Richmond. Using the restorative justice model, Michelle co-facilitated forums that brought together offenders, victims of crime and members of the community. Now a first year law student, Michelle is eager to continue her conflict resolution education and is honoured to be involved with CoRe.

Simone TielishSimone Tielish

A second year University of British Columbia law student, Simone came to UBC with a background in community leadership studies from the University of New Brunswick. In her first year at UBC law she volunteered as a CoRe Clinician and gained an appreciation for the process and value of mediation. Her interests in alternative dispute resolution prompted her to enroll in the UBC Mediation Clinic where she is training as a mediator.

Simone enjoys the challenge of facilitating creative solutions in mediation and constantly working with new people and new situations. This is her second year acting as a student representative on the CoRe Board of Directors and she looks forward to liaising with the Clinicians, and working with the other Board Members to bring mediation services to the community.
