by: UBC Law & Society Theme: Contemporary readings in law and history Dates: May 26-29, 2002 Location: Green College, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada Format: The workshop is designed to provide faculty and senior graduate students with an opportunity for extended socio/legal/historical discussion based on a core set of readings. The readings, selected and introduced by two distinguished legal historians and drawn from some of the outstanding work that considers law and legal institutions in historical contexts, will be distributed before the workshop. Participants will come prepared for a discussion based on those readings. Time is allowed during the workshop to complete some of the readings. The workshop will also include a field trip on the final day. Participants: The workshop will be limited to 16 faculty or senior graduate students who are working in legal history or related areas. Please submit brief c.v. and cover letter outlining your interest in the workshop by e-mail attachment to harris@law.ubc.ca by January 15th. Applicants will be informed of their participation in the workshop by February 15th. Registration Fee: $50 Funding: Funding for participants is limited. It is hoped that most participants will be attending the joint meeting of the Canadian Law and Society Association / Association Canadienne Droit et Society and USA Law & Society Association in Vancouver that immediately follows the workshop (May 30th—June 1st) and will receive travel assistance from their home institutions. |
