| As Director-General, Policy, Lord
Chancellors Department, Ian Burns has been responsible for the direction of policy
in the Lord Chancellors Department since 1995. In addition to the reform of legal
aid and the creation of the Community Legal Service, his responsibilities include the
reshaping of the civil justice system, the implementation of changes in the divorce
process following the Family Law Act 1996, maximising the effectiveness of LCDs
contributions to the criminal justice system and the implications of the Human Rights Bill
for the Courts, tribunals and legal aid. Prior to joining the Lord Chancellors
Department, Ian Burns had worked in, among others, the Home Office and the Department of
Health. |
