EMPLOYMENT

Since 1988 Ms. Christian has been Director, Indigent Defense Services Division, in the Office of the State Court Administrator, Oregon Judicial Department, Salem, Oregon and has been responsible for administration of Oregon’s statewide indigent defense program -- six FTE administrative staff, annual caseload of approximately 148,000 cases, annual budget of approximately $59 million, 81 contracts with independent public defenders, law firms and consortia of attorneys, and 36 FTE verification program.

Prior to 1988, Ms Christian was Assistant Director, Multnomah Defenders, Inc., Portland, Oregon.  Responsible for supervising and training fifteen deputy public defenders and two full-time law clerks. Coverage of a one-third FTE caseload. Liaison with court and district attorney’s office. Assist the director and office manager in personnel matters and budget preparation.

From December 1982 to December 1986 she was a Deputy Public Defender, Multnomah Defenders, Inc., Portland, Oregon, responsible for providing legal representation in approximately 325 indigent defense criminal cases per year.

October 1981-82 Legal Assistant, John Henry Hingson III, Attorney, Oregon City, Oregon.   Responsible for legal research and drafting of memoranda primarily regarding constitutional and criminal law issues.

June 1981-82 Volunteer, American Civil Liberties Union, Oregon Chapter, Portland,Oregon.  Responsible for screening requests for legal representation and preparation of requests for board consideration.

MEMBERSHIPS

Oregon State Bar (active member since 1981), National Legal Aid and Defenders’ Association (since 1989), Oregon State Bar’s Task Force on Indigent Defense and Task Force on Performance Standards. Former member of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Association.
