CHAIRMAN, SCOTTISH LEGAL AID BOARD
A graduate of the University of Glasgow in
Mathematics and Computer Science, Jean Couper began her career in the engineering sector
followed by a period in textiles holding line management roles in production and materials
management. From 1981 to 1995 she was a Management Consultant, firstly with Arthur Young
and latterly with Price Waterhouse providing advice and assistance to private and public
sector clients in the application of IT coupled with process re-engineering to deliver
greater efficiency and economy in business processes. In addition, she regularly advised
company Boards on associated matters, such as organisational structure, training &
development and senior staff recruitment.
In 1995 she established Catalyst Consulting,
focusing on the IT skill needs of software sector companies and multi-nationals with large
IT departments.
She was appointed as a member of the Scottish Legal
Aid Board in 1994 and in April 1998 was appointed Chairman.
She is currently a member of the Health Education Board for Scotland
and in the last 15 years has held numerous non-executive directorships within private and
public sector organisations.
