| Alan Paterson is a Professor of Law and Chairman of
Strathclyde University Law School, Scotland. Co-organiser of this conference and of
the Hague International Conference on Legal Aid in the Post-Welfare State Society.
Chairman, Legal Aid and Legal Services Group of the International Working Group on
Comparative Legal Professions. Chairman, Citizens Advice Scotland, Legal Services
Group. Currently Research Advisor to the Scottish Legal Aid Board and working (with
Avrom Sherr) on the OUtcome Measures and on the Block Contract research projects funded by
the English Legal Aid Board. He is also the Scottish consultant on the Nuffield
Foundation funded project on Access to Justice in Scotland. Educated at Edinburgh
and Oxford Universities and qualified as a solicitor in Scotland, he has published
numerous articles on legal aid and legal services. He has also conducted, funded or
commissioned research for the Scottish Consumer Council, the National Consumer Council,
the Scottish Office Home and Health Department, the Scottish and English Legal Aid Boards,
the Economic and Social Research Council, the Leverhulme Trust, Strathclyde Regional
Council and the Nuffield Foundation on issues relating to access to legal services and
funding such access. |
